Molly Dean + Jack Klatt Trio

Icehouse , 2528 Nicollet Avenue , Minneapolis, MN

Molly Dean is involved in a multitude of creative projects as a vocalist, instrumentalist & composer. Her music has been described as "deceptively simple" and her presence "enrapturing - a songstress that eschews archetypal female folkisms with subtle rebellion."

Musical missionary and tireless troubadour Jack Klatt isn’t one to be easily categorized or relegated to a narrow niche. He comes across as a young man with a wizened and worldly perspective, an artist who possesses a timeless sensibility of both place and purpose. Yet, his artistic integrity extends to more than simply his songs. It embodies both execution and intent. The way he’s mastered his deft finger-picking technique and used that sturdy approach to bring his material an authenticity reminiscent of the most revered musicians and storytellers.

Molly Dean (opening set) + Turn Turn Turn

Dakota Jazz Club, 1010 Nicollet Mall , Minneapolis, MN

Buoyed by the positive reception of their 2020 debut album, Can’t Go Back, the Minneapolis/Eau Claire-based Americana trio, Turn Turn Turn, drew inspiration from the recent pandemic/political zeitgeist and penned more than two dozen songs in 2021. Half of the material made its way onto the band’s sophomore effort, 2023’s New Rays From an Old Sun. Barb Brynstad (bass and vocals), Savannah Smith (guitar and vocals), and Adam Levy (guitars and vocals) tracked most of the new record at Levy’s apartment in St. Paul’s Schmidt Artists Lofts. Together, they are Turn Turn Turn.

Molly Dean opens the evening with a solo set of music.

Lamar is the latest project led by Minneapolis based singer, songwriter, saxophonist and composer Geoffrey Lamar Wilson. Former frontman of Brooklyn based Jus Post Bellum, also known for his multilayered looped saxophone performances and catchy podcast ditties. This latest project blends his idiomatic inspirations bridging Folk, Soul, R&B and Country, into a collection of songs with a constant ear towards issues of racial and social justice, and the shared human experience. He's joined by drummer James Taylor, Guitarist Steve Bosmans, and Bassist Jason Wells as well as a rotating cast of collaborators and special guests.

Akie is a Brooklyn native raised in a musical household full of jazz and politics fueled by his former- activist mom and dad. He began singing in church, moved it to school for a while, en route becoming some thing of a musical chameleon. His raucous, guttural and soulful vocals are a delectable fusion of Donny Hathaway and Tom Waits. He’s equally adept singing neo-soul, funk, contemporary jazz, alternative rock, and hip hop.

Over the past fifteen years, he has become a visible contributor to the fertile Brooklyn music scene as a musician, songwriter or featured vocalist though he is probably best known for his work with the popular band Lake Street Dive since 2017. When he is home in Brooklyn, he can be found performing at cutting edge venues like Rockwood Music Hall, The Owl Music Parlor, and Wild Birds, among others.

The Cactus Blossoms broke out nationally in 2016 with their JD McPherson-produced debut, You’re Dreaming. Dates with Kacey Musgraves, Jenny Lewis, and Lucius followed, as did raves from the New York Times and NPR, who praised “the brothers’ extraordinary singing.” The band was further catapulted into the spotlight in 2018, when David Lynch tapped them to perform in the return of Twin Peaks, and continued to build on their success with their 2019 sophomore LP, Easy Way, which led Rolling Stone to laud the duo’s “rock-solid, freak of genetics harmonies.”

Dusty Heart features rich vocal harmonies merged with intimate layers of guitar, fiddle and banjo. Barbara Jean and Molly Dean are two songwriters recognized in their own right for their poetic lyrics and distinct vocal styles that when combined create a powerful and haunting sound that takes on a life of its own. Through their shared wanderlust and love of adventure, a passion for the open road, vast landscapes & poetry, as well a mutual love for musical harmony, Dusty Heart has crafted a sound that bridges together the diverse musical worlds of roots, indie, pop and folk.
